From 2011 until spring of 2014 I worked as the music director for an elementary school. Taking that into account, there is always an evaluation performed to gauge competency of the instrument and knowledge of music theory if you're not a beginner. If the student is a beginner, I always start with the basics, music theory, parts of the guitar, maintenance of the instrument.
