That being said, there are students that don't want to learn to read and I understand that as well. For those students there are many methods available that can help them achieve what they want. I try to balance those responsibilities to a point that the student will always be learning something new as long as I work on their motivation and consistency of keeping up so they can learn how to play anything they like and want. I always like to know what is the goal of each of my students. What style or genre they like as well as if they are aiming to be a solo performer or part of a band or ensemble. I like to start students on method books such as Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, this will teach students basic music theory as well as how to read on a staff. If also like contemporary music, I will teach them how to read chords letters, so to play styles such as jazz, pop, rock and contemporary gospel music. Read More
