I am a passionate and motivated music instructor who loves helping students and sharing my love of music with others. In 2013, I graduated from Loyola University New Orleans with a minor in classical music. I have received lessons in piano, guitar, and bass for over 15 years and have had the privilege of studying with several known musicians from around the world. I started teaching music in 2009 by accident. I soon realized that teaching was my gift and passion. Read More

Hello! I am a professional saxophone player in the great musical city of New Orleans. I recently moved from my home state of Massachusetts working as a director of an after school music program for youth, to pursue a career as a performer. Since relocating, I've performed hundreds of shows with many amazing bands, such as the Glen David Andrews Band, the Young Fellaz Brass Band, the Marigny St Brass Band, The Roamin' Jasmine, the Jimmy Maxwell Orchestra, and many more. My teaching experience goes back 9 years. Before I moved to Chicago for school, I lived with my parents in Springfield, IL and taught private drum lessons out of their basement. Although I did not have a lot of experience teaching, I realized how rewarding it was to see a student learnand gain confidence on their instrument. It was something that I wanted to do more and saw a future in teaching. Read More

My teaching style is firm yet easygoing and fun..I expect the student to have practiced and be ready to play their homework back to me. I use repetition quite a bit but that's the best way, I find, that someone learns. I also encourage them to investigate and practice things that have not necessarily been assigned in order to see how serious they are. In other words, when they're not practicing what I show them, I expect them to experiment and investigate the fretboard on their own and then if they do come across something cool, then we can build off that Read More

Most of all the rescources I use for my students can be found for free online. The most important things for any classical guitarist are: Mauro Giuliani’s right hand arpeggio studies, Matteo Carcassi’s Etudes, Fernando Sor’s etudes among exercises I’ve learned and created personally. Other great rescources are Scott Tennant’s Book “Pumping Nylon” and Pepe Romero’s book “La Guitarra”, which are about $20 a book. Read More

My teaching style is catered to the student. We will go at a pass that fits with the students needs. The first lesson is critical in understanding the capabilities of the student and the pace at which they work. The musical interests of the student are of major import as well. Learning styles that the student likes and enjoys will create a much more exciting and interesting learning experience for all parties involved. Read More

I believe in teaching people to be true musicians and tap into their own creative spirits, not just to be technicians at the mercy of what's written for them. With that said, I take a balanced approached between learning traditional fundamentals and some of my own more philosophical approach, drawing on metaphors and analagous experiences to help frame this learning experience in ways the student can relate and understand. I call this The Art of Practice, which you'll be able to apply elsewhere in your life as well. Read More
