I had my first student when I was in middle school (around 1993). Jumping forward a few years later, I started teaching again around 1998 while attending Bekrlee College of Music. At that time I was only teaching partime but quickly escalated to fulltime once I graduated in 2001. At my peak, I was teaching between 40-45 students weekly. I currently have 30 students of all ages and levels. I cover several styles depending on the students interests. Read More

I started teaching two years ago at a private lesson studio in Denver called My Music Skool. My main focus was on piano and saxophone. Now I teach privately as a freelance musician. Two points I emphasize when teaching are practicing at least once a day no matter how long you play and learning what inspires you. There will always be some sort of theory I sneak in whether it's learning scales or building technical skills that will build confidence and ability, but if these devices aren't being applied to the type of music that inspires the student, then learning music becomes discouraging instead of fun. For very beginners, I will typically start with a basic method book, such as Hal Leonard to learn the essentials of basic technique. For adults or students with more experience, I will cater my lessons specifically to each students interests and goals as I find that this is the best way to keep students engaged and excited to learn. I teach music theory along with anything we learn in a lesson so the student can apply it to material they are already familiar with and interested in. Read More

Like I said above about my methods, my teaching style is all based around what YOU, the student, wants to learn, and YOUR level of knowledge/experience. If you want to learn a few songs to play along to and that's it, I can teach you how to. If you want to learn how to jam with friends and start a band, I can show you. If you want to really learn how to play and become a great musician, I can give/show/teach you everything I know. Read More

My teaching style really came about from my experience teaching students who didn’t have the confidence to reach out to instructors that they did not know. In working with these students I found out that above all else the true driver in a student’s success is their passion and excitement level. So it quickly became my mission to make sure that that never faded. My teaching style is 100% positive and I work to make every student know that during their time with me it is a “no judgment” zone. Lessons are catered to each students interests, goals, and musical tastes. Whatever style of music you choose to learn can be arranged in a manner that is approachable to any experience level and will in turn emphasize specific techniques and concepts needed to develop as a musician. Song choice is an integral part of the curriculum being the catalyst for the direction of each students lesson. The biggest goal of my lessons is to get my students playing first and foremost. I started teaching guitar shortly after beginning the instrument in 2005. Since then I have taught guitar, and string bass consistently as well as being a classroom music teacher for the past two years. I put a lot of focus on younger students developing good habits early and help them see the benefits of regular practice as their passion for music grows. I believe incorporation into daily life is vital to retention and I find ways to get students involved outside of lessons as much as possible. Read More
