For beginning students I make sure we know every warm up exercise and stretching exercises for the fingers after explaining the importance of rehearsing properly. We will start getting familiarized with a couple circles until the student fluently knows how to accompany every chord. After we are going to learn scales so they also familiarized with licks and comp. I tend to be very patient with students and understand that if they are not enjoying the lesson they will not learn or practice as much as they should. I try to get my students playing music quickly, once they are playing and not just practicing it becomes fun.
