It is incredibly rewarding to see my students develop a love of playing music. This is why I approach each individual student with a unique lesson plan to help them thrive. I focus these lessons on my students musical interests while keeping the lessons fun and interesting. I think its very important to teach my students proper practice techniques so they can continue to learn for themselves in between lessons. Read More

My methods differ for each instrument. For piano I will start with Alfred's basic piano course if the student is a beginner. It helps students visualize the basic techniques for sitting and playing the piano in a way that will prevent injury. From there we walk through the book until the student understands how the keys and reading music works. After this, I start to assign different songs and/or assignments that match the student's learning style and interest in music. Read More

I am a dedicated musician who has been playing the piano since age 3. In my late teens I taught myself to play the guitar and bass guitar, and I have spent my whole life learning the ins and outs of music through theory, composition, and performance. I hold no degrees or certifications other than a degree in environmental science, but I have put more hours into independent musical study than anyone my age who has chosen to pursue a degree in music. I started teaching guitar shortly after beginning the instrument in 2005. Since then I have taught guitar, and string bass consistently as well as being a classroom music teacher for the past two years. I put a lot of focus on younger students developing good habits early and help them see the benefits of regular practice as their passion for music grows. I believe incorporation into daily life is vital to retention and I find ways to get students involved outside of lessons as much as possible. Read More

The first thing I do when teaching a student is to learn what musical goals and aspirations the student may have. Then, depending on age and experience, I build a custom program for the student, which may include using various books, resources, and even materials which I have created. I have found that this is not only the most effective way for me to teach but also the most effective way to connect with students where they are and for them to learn at their own pace while also enjoying the process. For beginners I press through Hal Leonard's Guitar Method #1, laying a foundation of skills as well as approaching notation reading on the guitar. From there we begin to specialize based on the student's interest. For more advanced students, we'll focus on goals such as live performances, audition preparation, and repertoire. Read More
