The teaching begins with identifying student's musical needs, goals and tastes. Students are taught a stimulating, thorough, and graduated course of recital solos, theory, technical studies, and a strandard instrument repertoire. For those wishing to pursue more of a classical approach to music, there are proven methods to accomplish that goal established by European Master Teacher and pedagogues. I'm a very optimistic person. I like to inspire my students, and watch them have fun and grow! Lessons should be a fun thing to look forward to. As a kid, I had many lessons and teachers that I did not enjoy going to, and I don't want that to be the case for my lessons. Learning a new musical skill is fun, and really fulfilling, and I want my students to feel that way when they work with me. Read More

It is extremely important that students not only have fun during lessons, but that they also feel challenged. My teaching style is very "go with the flow." Each day is a new opportunity to learn a little more about music and your chosen instrument. Each lesson is a time where we can delve deeply into one piece of music, or jump around to several different topics. Of course, there is always room for structure and I make sure that we stay on track! There are so many different aspects of each instrument to cover, but there no need to get bogged down with complicated acronyms and over complex methodology. Read More

I always find out what the student likes and use that material as a format for developing good playing techniques and understanding, For beginners it's important to get it right from the start so playing and enjoyment can develop naturally. By immediately choosing songs they love the inspiration and motivation to practice will grow along with there playing. For intermediate students we balance repertoire and practice of the essentials such as scales, arpeggios, chord scales, triads 7th chords , melodies and progressions. Read More

I use several different method books for teaching. The books I typically use are Alfred's Basic Guitar, Mel Bay's beginner books as well as Hal Leonard's melody books. I teach beginner students the basics of how to properly hold their guitar, hand and finger placement, and simple note reading and chords. For more advanced students I teach theory and how they can apply it in order to be more creative. Read More
