For any new student, I believe the starting point must be why they are choosing to learn the guitar, or what excites them about trying to play. If a student wants to learn to strum chords to folk songs, than that's where we'll start, incorporating along the way the proper finger and hand techniques, as well as the appropriate level of theory knowledge needed to make the guitar an accesible system. My teaching style is is a combination of an active and exciting engagement with the student but with a no-pressure relaxed environment that the student can be comfortable in. I fully invest myself into each of my students and keep track of their progress diligently to be sure to cater to their needs. Overall, I have fun playing music and I want you to experience the same thing. Learning a new skill can be tedious and tough at times but if you can find a way to make it musical and fun then you will have something that you can treasure for the rest of your life whether you want to do it for fun or become a professional. I began teaching as soon as I felt I had a comfortable grasp on my instrument(s) as a teenager in high school. While in college I briefly stopped teaching but resumed before graduating, and have been teaching in home lessons again since completion. For new students, nothing will help you progress as a musician more than consistent practice; there is no shortcut. But with that consistent practice will come a sense of pride and motivation at what has been accomplished and the desire to continue. Read More

My method varies depending on the student. If the student wants a traditional musical approach, and is interested in learning notation and theory, then we will usually start with the Hal Leonard Book Series. If the student doesn’t want to learn notes or the more advanced musical concepts, I usually just start by teaching them simple songs that they know from the radio, TV Shows or movies. Something to get them really excited about learning and practicing, and songs that they recognize and can show others. Read More
