There are so many ways to approach music - via reading music, improvising, composing, playing by ear, and I make sure to include them all over the course of my lessons with students. I encourage students to bring songs that they are interested in learning, and also provide plenty of material to get them on their way to undersanding how to navigate both their instrument, and music. I usually use the Hal Leonard method for guitar students learning to read, and the Faber piano method for paino students. Read More

My teaching style is casual and professional, and you can expect low-stress top-notch musical education from me. Though I am lighthearted, I am serious and passionate about the music and inspire students with acknowledgment and praise when goals are reached. Musical accomplishemnts (learning to play real songs/pieces) are the best fuel for fire, and I push students to reach for more challenging and engaging performances. At the same time, music should be fun, and so should music lessons. Read More

I play both guitar and bass. Guitar is acoustic and electric, lead and rythym. Bass is 4 and 5 string. As I have learned from these instruments you have to come from different fields of thought. They're called guitars but thats where it ends. I love all things music. I want to share the joy of making and playing music. When it comes to teaching theory, I always say that if you can count to 8, than you can write a popular song you would hear on the radio. Read More

I like the aphorism by British guitarist and educator Robert Fripp "We begin where we are". It means to me that at any given point we are all beginners. So if we come with an open mind to explore and learn something new, perhaps what it could be challenging might become easier if we apply the right mind set. So if we are learning a scale...perhaps we begin with a note at the time, then add a second and third, so on, until we have all eight notes or sixteen. - Slow down: If you want to play fast you gotta be able to play it slowly with accuracy and precision. Playing the guitar gave me the tools i needed to express my emotions in a healthy manner, and I wish to share these tools with everyone that I can. Read More

The approach I use to advance student learning is fun and laid back - yet direct and studious. I believe in the power of mentoring students and adults. Every student is different and has their own way of learning and growing, even as we get older. There is always room for improvement. At your first lesson we can talk about what makes sense in terms of practice week to week and will continue to see what it takes as time goes on. Read More

My entire life, I have been dedicated to the study of music. From my early childhood education to present day gigs and songwriting, music has always been a centerpiece of my life. I have performed all around the world and am incredibly grateful for the learning experiences I have been blessed with. Around age 11 was when I first played the saxophone in jazz band, and when we started learning about chord progressions and improvising, that's what really cemented my love and study of music.
