It is important to me that each student learns at their own pace when I teach. I dont want to force things upon students that they arent ready for, or dont want to do. Because of this, most of my curriculum is based around music of the students choosing, so they keep engaged and wanting to keep learning. Through this, I will teach the theory aspect of the music they are learning to help give a better understanding of why things work the way that they do, and the why the way they sound that way. Regardless of technical ability, we will make music during lesson 1. Younger guitar students will work through the Hal Leonard Guitar for Kids Method with me in order to establish comfortability. From there we will progress into learning songs, developing musical interests, and playing our first performance. Adult students bring their own experience and interests that will be used to guide lessons individually. String Bass students will begin with the George Vance Progressive Repertoire for the Double Bass. Read More

I provide individualized instruction with a theoretical focus. I want students to understand the music that they play. I view music as a language and believe in the importance of being able to manipulate it to convey a message to the listener. I allow students to choose the songs they learn and couple them with technical exercises to improve dexterity and familiarity with the instrument. I believe in a "do no harm" philosophy, where my primary goal is to have students enjoy music on their instrument without being overly burdened with "homework" and "practice." Read More

I am somewhat lenient with my teaching style. I always give every student work to practice and improve upon for their next lesson. However, I am a firm believer that keeping a student's interest in music is best accomplished by allowing them to move at their own pace. I always want my students to be inspired and productive, and I also believe that a student should never feel forced into practicing their craft. Read More

I have taught for 25 years and can teach any level on guitar and most levels on piano. I have taught thousands of people, many of them complete beginners who have become very accomplished musicians through years of lessons. I really enjoy helping high school jazz band students with their pieces. I help the students understand how to simplify their thinking on the songs to make it easier to play them. Read More
