For beginners I like to start with using John W. Schaum's Music book as well as helping them to learn basic music theory in order to be able to keep time and know how to read music. I help them to know their music scales so that they know them by heart when playing music. I also inspire my students to join recitals in school as well as encourage them to practice daily as well as play with others. Read More

I exclusively use a positive approach toward teaching, affirming a student's abilities and potential. Of course, music is work that requires dedication and perseverance, but at all times it should be fun and engaging. Read More

First lesson I start by assessing what level the student is at and what goals they have with their music and develop a lesson plan from there. I focus first on fundamentals of sound and technique to build a foundation for the student then work on scales and repertoire to get them playing music. From there it is a focus on musicality and performance. A lesson plan for example may be working on solo repertoire by breaking down the piece by focusing on different elements that make the song; the scale, they rhythm, certain patterns by measure, techniques required, etc. Read More

PRACTICE. The bottom line way to get good at guitar is to PLAY IT. We can show you all kinds of techniques and theory but you have to want to pick up that thing and have it in your hands. Fiddle with it during the TV commercials. You have a need to squeeze that neck everyday. Together we can expand your knowledge base, but you hold the ultimate key to your success - practice. I began my musical career in high school taking on paid gigs at an early age and after graduation I had the opportunity to begin playing professionally right away. Before moving to Florida my central home for 15 years was in an arts-based community north of San Francisco where I was a member in several groups that gained significant notoriety throughout Northern California and the Greater North West. Essentially, I've sat at the hip of masters and put in my 10,000 hours of work to get to this point in life. Read More

The best thing about teaching is when my students get frustrated at some concept or technique and I am able to show them a simple and easy solution to the problem. This usually lights up my student's faces and helps them get better not only at their instruments, but also at problem solving. I always try to reward those students who are able to answer music theory questions or those that complete their assignments. Read More

I teach the student as much as they can absorb while making sure they understand the material.I have never run out of material to teach.I teach proper technique and about scales because every song written is based on scales.I also work on songs with the student at the same time so they can see and understand how the songs and scales are used together. After the basics are understood we move on to songs the student wants to learn.I can also tailor lessons to a students wants or needs if desired.I have been doing this quite a while and understand what works.
