For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Guitar for Kids and Bass for Kids methods. At the same time, I assign exercises that will help develop the students technique. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. I try to find out what kind of music the student is interested in, and guide my instruction to keep the lessons interesting and engaging. Read More

My method and teaching style are one in the same. I am a teacher of music, not a task master. The student will only succeed if he/she sees some success. With a small success, they will continue to learn more. Once students learn something they have in their mind, they usually will stay with music, sometimes for the rest of their lives. I like teaching beginners something easy. Then, I play along with what they learned. Read More

I teach the student as much as they can absorb while making sure they understand the material.I have never run out of material to teach.I teach proper technique and about scales because every song written is based on scales.I also work on songs with the student at the same time so they can see and understand how the songs and scales are used together. After the basics are understood we move on to songs the student wants to learn.I can also tailor lessons to a students wants or needs if desired.I have been doing this quite a while and understand what works. It's important when introducing music into especially a young persons life, that they have short term, attainable goals, and they hopefully eventually enjoy playing. Therefore, it's important to encourage them especially during the first two-three weeks as soft fingers will be developing callouses. The nice thing about guitar, is that it's easy to produce a relatively pleasant sound immediately unlike a trumpet, violin, or saxophone, where the basic tone production is challenging. Read More

Books I use for teaching Piano is the Piano Adventures series of books by Nancy and Randall Faber, which is a great lesson book and a good basic piano method for beginners through intermediate level students. For guitar I use the Hal Leonard Incredible Chord Finder and the Warren Nunes Jazz guitar Rhythm and Background Chords and the Solo Patterns book. Also For both Piano and Guitar I have accumulated many charts and Berklee School of Music pages to use as students start to progress. Read More
