Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance looking into different genres such as RnB, Blues, Rock, Pop, Jazz. I do enjoy teaching out of books, especially younger children. It gives a visual to emphasize what I am teaching. A lot of the books I use are from Hal Leonard, but then I also have custom exercises for all different genres of music.
