I do my best to be a relaxed, grounded teacher who reminds the student to relax and enjoy the process of making music. I do listening exercises, clapping, counting, reciting the letters of the notes with their voice, and demonstrate the songs they are learning to each student. Each lesson is a celebration of music in a carefree environment filled with song and smiles. I always find something I like in each performance. Read More

I generally split lessons into three sections, 1/3 with chords, 1/3 scales, 1/3 with songs, but every student is different, for example, If your goal is to strictly learn chords to sing folks songs over, I will emphasize more chord reading and learning time. If you want to play leads, I will spend more time emphasizing scales to help you learn how to improvise. There are also other excercises we can do like rhythm reading (just with clapping, no instrument) transcription/listening, and harmonic analysis. Read More

I've been teaching independently since the start of the new year and have since acquired a few students. I took a years of music courses at my local university and I am currently seeking my Bachelors in Music Production. Additionally I have been playing both guitar and bass for over 10 years. Though I am primarily a guitar and bass player, I am also an experienced electronic music producer and recording artist. Read More

My methods vary on the student and subject. Beginning students will typically focus more on technical pieces of music to improve on certain aspects of a few pieces to perform. More advanced students will still practice technical parts of their music, but less time will be spent on it during a lesson. Advanced level students will spend more time on repertoire and performance. The more advanced a student gets, the more I expect them to practice outside of lessons and apply their newly learned technical skills into their music on their own. Read More

My Philosophy is "learn how the student best learns". Expose all the students to note reading, ear training, youtube, music theory, improvisation techniques, composition, fingerstyle patterns, tablature, and singing, and then create a program that maximizes their potential and their long term feeling that music is fun and worth doing. I began teaching five years ago while attending Lewis Clark college, giving lessons for free and for trade among the students. Since then, I have given many lessons to students, friends, fans, and to my 8-year-old little sister. I love teaching both children and adults, and I am a patient and courteous instructor. I have experience teaching a variety of musical styles, and each lesson will be tailored to the specific student's particular musical passion. Read More

Once students are past the fundamentals and rudiments of their instrument(s), I introduce large selections of solo repertoire to sight-read in lessons; this process allows students to try out a large number of pieces, and then selecting a few to study forward. For every instrument I teach, I keep a large variety of warmups, games, activities, composition strategies, and improvisational pieces in circulation to keep my lessons fun, engaging, and rewarding for every student.
