For the beginner learning to play the piano for the first time, I typically start with Bastiens or Alfreds piano books, theory, and technique. For Older beginners, I start with scales, theory and technique exercises combined with early repertoire and ear training. For vocal students, I focus on warm- ups, and technique exercises, followed by coaching. Work with acquiring sight singing skills, ear training, theory, technique and interpretation. My teaching experience dates back to my high school days, when I began teaching private lessons part time. This quickly became someone that I loved to do, and I continued teaching through my four years at Western Michigan Univerisity, working with students of all ages and abilities. My college years opened a wide spectrum of teaching opportunities, and I started working with both children, teens, and adults. The first lesson or two may be spent just getting to know each other and give some minor music skill testing to help me understand skill level.
