Overview:
My name is Aziza Poggi and I am a classically trained mezzo-soprano singer from the Grand Rapids, Michigan area. I have been studying voice for over 20 years and I am your classic underdog who rose to the top by competing for grants in college for voice, performing in honors recitals, and touring the United States and Europe with my classical symphonic metal band Aria Flame. I have studied with opera sensation Nicholas Loren (Metropolitan Opera), Dr. Stephen Barton (GRCC music department), Bill Bokhout (Opera Grand Rapids), Diane Koperski (GRCC voice program), Mary Zimmer (White Empress), Melissa Ferlaak (Plague of Stars), Pamela Moore (Queensryche), and many more. At the beginning of my career, I had low self-esteem and at time I did not realize how much that was holding me back from becoming the singer I am today. People may not realize that singing is a lot about confidence. Working with a vocal coach is an excellent way to increase your confidence while learning ways to improve and develop your voice. I know the fundamentals of breath support and technique and I can teach many different styles. My students have gone on to audition on a national level for American Idol and The Voice, gotten lead roles locally in plays and musical theater, and have continued their education through the prestigious programs at the Interlochen Center for the Arts and Berklee College of Music. I have worked as an actor, talent manager, and casting assistant and am also available for hire as a talent coach and for career advice. Currently I am furthering my education at Berklee College of Music and have maintained my position on the Dean's list consistently. I can help you further your goals and lessons are catered to your individual needs!

Currently I am furthering my education at Berklee College of Music and have maintained my position on the Dean's list consistently. I can help you further your goals and lessons are catered to your individual needs! Currently I am accepting beginner to intermediate students 8 years or older for classical voice and pop (rock) vocal style in person at my studio or via Zoom or Skype. Please note that a parent or guardian must be present for students under 18 years old. Lessons are one full hour for teens or adults and half hour for children or upon request. Lessons are personally suited to your individual needs and goals.
METHODS USED

With children, I usually recommend easy to sing along songs that they have heard growing up like "Silent Night" etc, and I usually pick their songs unless they like songs that are in their vocal range and not difficult on the voice. I want them to enjoy singing and stick with it, instead of getting frustrated and not liking the music. If they mix it up with my choices and some of their choices that i approve of, then they are more likely to stick with it. Singing helps build structure and it helps with discipline as well while being full filling and enjoyable to children.

With adults, I do the same with song choices and allow them to select songs that are in their range, as I select songs that will help expand their range, stamina and push them a little without straining. i have students from ages 6 and up. Right now, 60% of my students are adults and 40% are children 15 and younger. I have rock singers, classical singers to gospel and R&B. I am very diverse in my teachings and adapt to each students level, ability, and style.

LESSON STYLE

I have been teaching for over 8 years and do not have a high turnover! My students and I form a close working relationship! I love seeing them grow and achieve their dreams. I have seen them start out with low self esteem to confidence which then helps secure themselves in their singing! Teaching brings me fulfillment and seeing my students grow and appreciate my lessons, warms my heart and makes me realize I chose the right profession. I believe in the power of the mind. If you are passionate about singing, want it bad enough, and want to succeed, you will if you put in the work, are determined, and have the ability to learn new things. Everyone's goals are different. You can sing for hobby and personal enjoyment, to fulfill a childhood dream or want to sing professionally, I am certain I can help you. Most recently, some of my students auditioned for American Idol (skipping the long audition lines and direct audition per my contacts) and also The Voice. One of my students also got into Berklee and another into Interlochen.

If there were more stars to give, I'd be more than happy to select them :) Just over a year ago, I was looking for the right vocal tutor for my needs & wants and came across Aziza. I sent her an email asking about her services and if she was taking on any new students. Much to me delight, I got a quick reply and was told yes :) Since then, I have been attending lessons via Skype (and then Facebook video as we found the quality was better. This could be as I stay overseas in Scotland.) Aziza has helped me in so many ways..I don't know where to begin! There was a time I couldn't bring myself to perform, but Aziza has given me a lot of confidence and I have since done two shows at my work. Every lesson holds something new and the learning is very in depth and fun. I have enjoyed every single lesson. Aziza has helped me come through leaps & bounds and has been so amazing, patient and kind from day one. I truly feel blessed to have Aziza. She is one in a million and has such an incredible voice. Thank you for everything, you are a star x
