I began to teach young children at elementary levels while at Indiana University. Despite their high-caliber collegiate music curriculum, they also have one of the world's esteemed Suzuki method schools led by pedagogues who even started Joshua Bell. I was lucky enough to dive under their wing and really learn the fundamentals of Suzuki teaching, or inspiring fresh minds from the core level. My teaching experience is probably not as great as others, but I am working towards it being something fantastic! I started teaching students in my Junior year of high school. They were sixth graders, and I would occasionally work with seventh and eighth graders. I started student teaching in high school, with no great desire to ever be a teacher, but my teachers said I was going to do the teacher training class, and like a good girl I did as I was told. I enjoyed learning, so learned how to teach for the sake of more learning. Soon enough, I started a private lesson business centered in Tallahassee, Florida, which continued until the end of my college career at Florida State University. I feel immense joy and reward when I know that my students are discovering a new love for music, so I create a unique plan for each student that allows them to progress at their own pace. I set realistic goals with each student for what they hope to achieve by the next week, and I work together with them on how to practice.
