I find this to be a very good book to help grasp the fundamentals of the instrument for beginning players. For younger students who are just starting out, I start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements seeing as that is the book that most public schools use when teaching young, aspiring students an instrument. As the student becomes more proficient, I will begin slowly introducing material of various styles to allow the student to explore their interests. For adults, I try to find what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly so the student can learn what they want to learn, as well as for them to have a good time no matter what their ability level is. I'm very passionate about my art and love to see growth in everyone I teach! I push my students to strive for success, but at the same time my lessons are very relaxed and fun. Besides working on weekly selections, we will listen to examples, talk about a variety of topics including technique, musicianship, theory (primarily jazz lessons), as well as play duets and improvise together (jazz lessons).
