I prioritize individualized progress, recognizing that each student follows their unique path in their musical journey. To support this, I establish realistic goals tailored to each student's abilities and aspirations during our lessons. Acknowledging achievements serves as a powerful motivator, igniting a student's drive to reach new heights in their musical pursuits. I find that celebrating milestones not only instills a sense of accomplishment but also cultivates a hunger for further learning. Read More

For students who are learning an instrument for band or marching band, I like to integrate their sheet music or method books into the lesson. I use method books with students who are new to their instrument. These materials are then supplemented with scales, solo repertoire, exercises, and technique work as appropriate for each student's interest and skill level. Lessons also consist of listening to previous assignments/repertoire from prior weeks and then offering feedback, answering any questions a student may have, and giving new assignments for the next lesson. In my opinion, I believe in the four "T" s. The student must generate a robust tone, that's their signature. Then comes technique, fluid technique is vital. Thirdly, is good sense of time, you can't perform without it. Lastly is taste, a student must acquire an acute sense of musical taste. These four principals are essential for all levels of music performance. Once a good foundation is established, the student will have the tools he needs to take on any musical challenge. Read More

For four years during my undergraduate studies, I got to spend an hour a week with Ralph Bowen’s gentle, understated method of teaching. He worked to get to know me personally, and then crafted lessons around my specific needs. With surgical precision, he conveyed information and assigned work and entirely because of his teachings, I improved a tremendous amount while loving music, myself, and him. Every student is different – this fact is cause for the gnarliest and most beautiful moments in education. Read More

My teaching style can vary with each student each student has a different level of learning accessibility time restraints etc. One of the most important things I try to teach is the student to be his own teacher and whenever practicing whether it be 15 or 20 minutes when they are done with that practice session they have accomplished something some sort of improvement I have studied with teachers from the New York Philharmonic the metropolitan opera and the New York City ballet Orchestra they have all taught me and I pass on to the student to break down whatever they were playing and approach it in a patient manner by repeating and eventually getting their end result Whether it’s a few notes in a piece or a whole solo or exercise Read More
