Flutist Suzanne Francis received her BA from Kutztown University and a MM from Rutgers Mason Gross School of the Arts. Her principal teachers include Bart Feller, Emily Skala, and Susanna Loewy. She resides in Princeton, NJ performing regularly with the Princeton University ensembles, the Brook Symphony Orchestra, New Jersey Voices Chorale, the Bronx Opera Company, and Berks Sinfonietta. As a founder and Principal Flutist of the Garden State Quintet, she is an advocate for emphasizing the prominence of contemporary music while staying rooted in the foundations set forth by traditional pedagogy. I'm a flute teacher interested in educating young flutists as whole musicians, integrating music theory, ear training, eurhythmics, and history where applicable. With a background in music therapy, I have a complex understanding of how music and music learning interact with a person's body, mind, and spirit, and I believe that becoming better musicians can make us better human beings, if we let it. I use a variety of methods and am completely comfortable with giving diversified instruction to students of different age levels and skill/ability levels. I particularly enjoy giving lessons and the seeing the progression of student with Special Needs (I'm a part time para professional teaching grad 2 students with Special Needs).
