Most recently, I completed a fellowship at Lincoln Center Education in New York City. It was there that I co-founded Pinwheel, an ensemble of classically trained musicians and theatre artists. My teaching style is collaborative, I believe in listening to what the student wants to get out of their lessons.  During the initial meeting I always ask the student what are their musical goals.  From there we develop a plan for the student to achieve those goals.  Even though I typically have a plan for each lesson in my mind prior to the lesson, I always ask the student if there is anything specific that has been giving them trouble throughout the week and I make sure that I cover that topic first.  I involve the student in the processing of choosing repertoire as well as I strongly believe that if the student likes the music they are more likely to practice and learn the material.  Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. For beginners through intermediate students I normally use the Rubank Method, Standard of Excellence, Essential Elements, Trevor Wye Tone, and Boehm Method books to start students out on to ensure their success in band class and their affordability for home practice. The method books I listed before really give students a good sense of technique, theory, history, and phrasing as a early musician, and with my guidence my students can really work and learn fast. I am a passionate teacher and performer who loves working with students of all ages. I completed my Bachelor or Music degree at the University of Iowa in Music Education and Flute Performance. I then spent a year student teaching and substitute teaching which taking auditions for a masters program. I am currently enrolled at the University of Georgia in Flute Performance.
