I strongly believe that students should be corrected and made aware of their mistakes when learning music or a new instrument, but I also believe that these corrections and criticisms can be delivered in ways that push students to better themselves, rather than make them doubt their abilities as a musician. I began teaching in my sophomore year of college at the age of 19. I started by giving thirty minute to one hour lessons to local students. I soon began leading masterclasses for the flute students of the local middle and high schools. Most recently, I taught a masterclass to a large group (30-40) of high school flute students. Oftentimes I tailor lessons that ive created in my past to create lesson plans for individual students. I oftentimes use action research methods in helping me determine whether or not the teaching method that is being used in the lesson is effective for the student receiving lessons.
