I have worked with special needs kids and adults since I graduated, then after a brief period of break due to having my own children, I am back to teaching piano lessons. I have worked in schools and hospitals since my internship before graduating and now teaching in my home studio. I love to work with kids and I believe the younger they are, the better they should experience music early and more formal lessons can be provided as long as they are able to sit, understand how to read and keep rhythm. Teaching a young student how to play the instrument by sound and not by reading notes allows them to use their imagination while playing. When students figure out for themselves, that is when the best kind of learning happens. I start each student with the Frances Clark Series. This is terrific in introducing all musical components to the learner. It starts off right away using ALL the notes on the piano. Black notes are used exclusively in some repertoire. Each building block is built upon the next and it just nicely adds , in a non-threatening way to what the student has learned before. I intersperse these books with other more seasonal books and the student and I build on that. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more.
