I attribute development of my teaching method to having started as young as I did; it is my firm belief that students and teachers should learn together, and that, especially with younger students, that it should be fun, engaging, and even a little bit silly at times. I both encourage and require regular practice on a consistent schedule; practicing not only helps students further their progress, but it helps them to avoid burnout by maintaining a view of music as less of a chore and more of a fun activity. Playing is a big part of the creative process, in that it involves experimenting and finding new ideas, thoughts, and processes that work best for each individual and that will lead to the perfect practice and the excitement of performance. When a student is ready, I will encourage them to do some suggested performing opportunities. Nothing is more thrilling to me and sometimes emotional, than to see one of my students progress to the point of loving music as much as I do, and to go on and spread the good to all those who will listen. I am a member of National Music Teachers Association, Colorado State Music Teachers Association and Foothills Music Teachers Association.
