Because of the delicacy of the youngest voices, I believe this is the most fundamental aspect of singing. Range can be developed as the vocal mechanism develops, but this will all be made easier with a solid support structure. I really take a look at what the student needs to learn and what the student wants to learn because I've seen a lot of students giving up because the institution or teacher is giving to much theory and very poor practice. I try to balance those responsibilities to a point that the student will always be learning something new as long as I work on their motivation and consistency of keeping up so they can learn how to play anything they like and want. My style is open minded. I first try to know the students' goals and prepare a course of action accordingly. Then I try to know how much the students already knows and how much talent they have. That allows me to determine how fast I may go with them or how much I must drill and develop a particular skill before going on. Sometimes if I assess the student is jammed or stressed I deem it necessary to digress a bit into music history , philosophy and other fields related to music that work as a refreshing background and point of rebound to the skill part of the lesson while increase the scholarly knowledge of the student. These student came from all backgrounds and experience levels, and their fields of study included math, computer science, drama, and more.
