I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. I am a Classical linguist turned Vocal Performer and choral conductor who believes that active participation in music improves quality of life for all ages. This belief comes from a life-time of musical learning and performance spanning violin lessons at the age of 4 all the way to singing on stage with the Cleveland Orchestra, Akron Symphony, Canton Symphony, and Cincinnati Symphony Orchestras to name a few, as well as a paid vocalist with many fine choral ensembles in the NE Ohio area, including the Summit Choral Society Masterworks Chorale, the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus, Akron Symphony Chorus, and the Cleveland Singers' Club of the Western Reserve Chorale. Coming from the struggling yet revolutionary country of Lebanon, I have found healing in expression and performance. I am currently a graduate student studying Musicology at Rutgers University. My musical journey has been continuous ever since singing for the first time in my home church's youth choir. Studying piano and viola, performing on stage in musicals, and participating in choir invariably throughout grade school, I was finally lead to study classical music at Susquehanna University. Both in high school and at college, I was an active participant in many vocal genres, including jazz, a capella groups, barbershop quartets, musical theater, classical art song, and a touch of popular music. My teaching experience started the last year of attending Heidelberg University when I was required to instruct a high school student drum lessons as part of my internship. After graduation in 1991 I had my first vocal student in my home. In 1995 is when I had my first experience teaching in a music store environment. The store was known as Howland's Music World and was there until 1997. I've been teaching guitar for the past 12 years, and more recently bass, ukulele, piano/keys, voice, percussion and studio recording as well. I have taught students ranging from child to adult, as well as working for two years as a caretaker with mentally challenged and special needs individuals.
