My teaching started at my time at West Valley College. As a teacher assistant, I assisted students of a wide range of ages and levels. My experience as a teacher with younger students comes from my background in music education and choral conducting. I began teaching privately about a year ago. I teach beginning students, who learn important musicianship skills and music theory, to more advanced students, who seek to expand their repertoire and gain a deeper understanding of their instrument. I work from a whole-body mindfulness perspective on voice. We use our whole body to create and emit sound, not just our lungs and throat. When we work from a whole-body perspective, we are more grounded, we are better able to identify pitch and stay on pitch, our breath flows better, and the act of singing becomes enjoyable and easy. We start from identifying the student's comfortable pitches and range, and then we expand upon what is currently comfortable for a greater range. Read More

I began teaching private lessons a year ago and have been consistently teaching private lessons at students' homes and in my home studio since then. I've discovered that focusing on students' own interests and love for music generates fun, engaging and rewarding lessons for them. Repetition and a consistent practice schedule is easier for students to continue when lessons are focused on developing the aspects of music that they love, or building skills that take them closer to their interests. I still have that student and many more now and have a very high retention rate and am an upbeat, positive teacher that students enjoy coming back to. The fact that I also play live gigs about 4 nights a week gives my students a chance to see me play live and get inspired, something that is really necessary to keep a student motivated for years. I have been teaching private voice for three years, and feel like I truly thrive when I'm sharing my knowlege of music and performance. At Colorado State University I taught a to wide range of students and styles from freshmen voice majors, choral conducting graduate students, theater majors, voice minors, and even a couple aspiring folk/country singers!
