My teaching experience began during college, roughly four years ago, while teaching several private students during a summer break. While studying music in college, I received training in topics such as keyboard pedagogy, keyboard literature, collaborative piano, improvisation, music theory, and musicianship (aural skills). I worked as a Music Theory/Musicianship Grader and Tutor for several years, and I assisted in some group piano classes. I supplement some of the things in the book with other literature and hand written exercise to help enhance learning experience. I am a recent graduate from Dickinson College with a BA in Music- Vocal Performance and Anthropology. Some of my recent major performance experiences include two solo recitals, including one featuring works of all women composers; Natalie in Next to Normal; and Frasquita in Carmen. Since then, I have continued to teach freelance through personal connections, Musika, and various non-profit organizations. For a young 11 year old beginner, homework assignments will begin with the instrument itself, and then eventually Book One of any method book desired. Popular practice dictates good results with books like Yamaha and Standard of Excellence. For middle-level ability (middle school / early high school), the Rubank series is perfect.
