For my keyboard students, I like to start with like bit of music theory and learn to read musical notes and proceed to closing warm up exercise and solo repertoire according to their level and interests. For my voice students, I typically focus on their genre of music and teaching their goal in singing. Depending on their goal or focus, I will introduce vocal exercise and techniques although most techniques are good to use in any kind of singing. Read More

My teaching experience includes serving as a middle school band director, high school band director, middle school choir director, high school choir director, elementary school general music and choir teacher, and elementary school clarinet teacher. The youngest student I've ever taught was six years old, and I'm happy to work with children, adolescents, and adults. During undergrad in college, I also worked the music theory tutoring lab giving theory lessons to college students, so if a high school student is studying music theory, I would be able to assist with that as well. My love of teaching is such that every time I am able to work with a student who genuinely wants to learn and has in themselves chosen to engage in the forms of music, I am transported to the position of student and learner as well. The fundamental forms in music are not something to be passed and discarded but forms that can be returned to at different times in your life and reveal more to the learner each time. Read More

Or even before begiining Band, if I find a student who is very well at reading Music, I will not hesitate to recommend that student for Band; sometimes as early as Grade 3. My students are always rewarded for their efforts. I will spend an amount of my budget for rewards of all sorts; sometime during the school year, and always at the end of the School Year. My parents are always pleased, in that I encourage all who want to participate as well. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice
I was in choir and band all throughout middle/high school and went to college unsure if I wanted to focus on music or theatre. I was very active in both departments and continued to take private piano and voice lessons but theatre won out and my primary focus changed to scenic painting. However, music remains a huge part of my life. I love that no matter where I am or who I am with music brings people together in a way that nothing else can. Read More
Instruments: Voice
Because of my active involvement in the musical world from a young age, I understand the different challenges and learning curves for students of all ages. I have found that everyone processes things differently, develops at various paces, and not one voice is the same. That being said, I cater my lessons to each individuals needs. All the time people tell me they can't sing. For some people it might come more naturally than others, but I have found that if you can match pitch, then you are very teachable. Read More
