As beginners, I recommend the first Hal Leonard Essential Elements Band books with EEi. The EEi feature allows students to access online features that coordinate with their private lessons and enhance their ability to learn. As students progress through the book, I add solo repertoire to the student's EEi account so they can both hear it played and record their own performance of each work of band music. Guitar students start with Essential Elements, piano students begin with Piano Adventures/Adult Piano Adventures, and both offer interactive online components which enhance the student's resources and ability to practice and learn between lessons. I have been teaching music ever since I began to develop a formal education myself. I began by teaching anyone and everyone I could as early as my first year of college. I quickly figured out that anyone could really learn this stuff. I also realized that most people wanted to learn at some point, just never got around to it or stopped believing they could. It has always been my mission to reverse this kind of thinking for those who want it, and help people understand it is never too late to learn. Read More

I can take on any student of any experience level, from beginner to advanced, young and wise. I love working with kids, and I am great with helping anyone overcome stage fright and develop confidence. One of the qualities I admire of those who have taught me is their approachability and acceptance. I am supportive and encouraging, and I love being able to watch my students grow into powerful artists! I am open to anything and everything that you want to work on. Read More

My approach to teaching is personal, flexible, and student-centered. I will start by finding out what the student knows already, and what the student wants to know. What kinds of music do they want to play, and why? (For instance: for fun; accompanying themselves singing; performing in front of people; becoming professional.) If the student can play some samples of songs they would like to learn, all the better. Along the way, some basics will surely be covered (chords, scales, basic music theory, various instrumental techniques). Read More

In a first lesson, I evaluate the student's skill level and discuss what kinds of music we would like to study. After this initial evaluation, I develop a personalized plan which addresses healthy vocal production and practice techniques which address the needs of the student. I tailor my instruction to each student's needs, accounting for various vocal needs, temperaments, and learning styles; therefore, I do not have a generic method. Read More

Lessons are geared to the individual student. I try to provide a warm and friendly atmosphere while providing a professional experience for the students. Theory is emphasized as well as technique for both the piano and voice student. Most voice students will get a basic knowledge of music reading skills while piano students tend to have a bit more in depth studies. I also use fun worksheets to help with the learning of theory which are based upon the season that we are currently in. Read More
