I believe in celebrating even small achievements that mean a student's abilities are growing, while keeping an eye on the big picture of what skills are needed to perform at the level the student would like. Above all, I want the experience to be personal and fun. The last thing I'd want to do is make rules or goals that get in the way of the student's interest in making music. Read More

As a professional, state-licensed music teacher for over fourteen years, I began teaching in Carlsbad, New Mexico in 2001 before moving to Colorado in 2007 and serving in Douglas County School District, Denver Public Schools, and Jefferson County Public Schools. Encouraging students to practice on a regular basis is the cornerstone of musical growth and development, and I help especially younger students find the balance between popular music and classical music as a means of motivating practice and developing their skills. I began teaching music at the age of 15, primarily guitar and piano lessons for beginners ages 7-14 in my hometown of Parker, CO. At 16 I began teaching my students basic music theory and intermediate instrumental instruction. I moved to Boston in 2012 to pursue an undergraduate degree in Songwriting from Berklee College of Music in Boston, still actively teaching throughout my curriculum. I have now taught over 200 students ages 4 to 64 a wide variety of music-related subjects, including: piano, guitar, bass, voice, music theory, D.A.W. and notation software, and contemporary songwriting. I can take on any student of any experience level, from beginner to advanced, young and wise. I love working with kids, and I am great with helping anyone overcome stage fright and develop confidence. One of the qualities I admire of those who have taught me is their approachability and acceptance. I am supportive and encouraging, and I love being able to watch my students grow into powerful artists! I am open to anything and everything that you want to work on. Read More

I believe in Keeping it Fun! We get to play. Playing is a big part of the creative process, in that it involves experimenting and finding new ideas, thoughts, and processes that work best for each individual and that will lead to the perfect practice and the excitement of performance. When a student is ready, I will encourage them to do some suggested performing opportunities. Nothing is more thrilling to me and sometimes emotional, than to see one of my students progress to the point of loving music as much as I do, and to go on and spread the good to all those who will listen. For my students, I will always meet them where they are in their musical journey. For students in general, I find they respond better when faced with a challenge that they are more familiar with. I believe the same rules of musicianship in classical based performing can be learned from a more contemporary aspect. After the student is comfortable, I will slowly expand their horizons both in the music they listen to and the music they perform. Read More

For me, enjoyment as well as developing proper, healthy technique is key. This means that student may have to do more gritty work than with other teachers, but this pays off as they get to tackle more challenging rep and ultimately can connect skills to repertoire more quickly. However, I always like to meet students where they're at. If they want to learn how to play their favorite pop song on piano, or want to audition for their local theater's musical theater production, my priority will always be teaching in ways that the student feels is relevant to their goals and interests.
