I am an experienced teacher, performer, and coach for all types of vocal music. In May 2015, I completed my Masters of Music in Voice Performance from the University of Denver's Lamont School of Music. Some students will pick up a technique or a piece of music in one week, while another might struggle with the same piece for a whole month, and that's okay! I will never force a student to move on from something they feel less than great about, and with that ideology, I believe students gain the confidence that is so vital to the creative process of music making. For me, enjoyment as well as developing proper, healthy technique is key. This means that student may have to do more gritty work than with other teachers, but this pays off as they get to tackle more challenging rep and ultimately can connect skills to repertoire more quickly. However, I always like to meet students where they're at. If they want to learn how to play their favorite pop song on piano, or want to audition for their local theater's musical theater production, my priority will always be teaching in ways that the student feels is relevant to their goals and interests. I taught private guitar lessons continuously, while in highschool and college. In between engagements in my performing career, I would always return to teaching. In 1992 I was certified by Dr. L Scott Martin, Phd from Juilliard, to teach vocal performance at his Academy of the Arts in Denver, and I have continued to the present, to coach young singers to express themselves with music. I have been blessed in helping many of my students to reach some impressive accomplishments in music, such major record deals, appearances on TV and Film, and getting in to some great music colleges. My goal with all students is that they enjoy learning, become self-motivated to practice, and consider their musical abilities as a gift which they can choose to share with others whenever they feel comfortable to do so. I have experience using a variety of method books and can easily recommend appropriate materials.
