The first band I have been in was when I was twelve years old, playing clarinet in my local bandshell. I have performed in a large variety of settings including the NIU Wind Symphony, NIU Wind Ensemble, NIU Chamber Group, NIU Huskie Marching Band, and NIU Sinfonia. I also played clarinet with the Kishwaukee Concert Band, DeKalb Municipal Bandshell, and was principal clarinetist and ringer of the Illinois Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra. Read More

Music is unlike any other extra curricular activity in the lives of young ones. Through the arts, a teacher is able to impose the education of feeling. In essence, my love of teaching stems from my Mom's love of teaching. She sincerely desired to teach my siblings and myself to pursue our highest dreams. It turned out that I did succeed as a star performer in music, on stages around the world. But also, when I decided to settle down, I added education to my 10-year plan. So, I went back to school for another master's degree, and taught music in CPS - performing three nights per week with my the Bartels/Benson duo, Connexion Band, Prohibition Orchestra, Bryan Skyler Trio, and other groups. My first teaching experience dates back to High School when I had the opportunity to coach elementary orchestra students. As a student at University of Colorado at Boulder and DePaul University, I completed String Pedagogy courses which covered all the different elements of teaching from how to manage a private studio to instructing your students. Currently, I teach a group of ten kindergartners at Skinner West Elementary School. This has been the most rewarding and challenging part of my teaching career thus far. Read More

During my undergrad, I have consistently taught private lessons as a part time violin instructor. After I moved to Madison, I had the chance to teach college students violin lessons and coach chamber groups in high schools through the outreach program at school. I strongly recommend students to practice every day even though it is only short amount of time. I have found if students get familiar with the instrument and learning materials, as a result, they would make good progress, feel motivate to continue to learn and enjoy playing the instruments. I began my teaching career in 2014. I was involved in a program where I worked under established teachers and observed them teach. I then took over their classes and received feedback and guidance from them. Since moving to Chicago in 2017, I have worked with a music school and taught private lessons as well as group lessons in Chicago Public Schools.
