I generally use Alfred for piano, both the children's and adult's versions. I use Hal Leonard for guitar. For both violin and double bass, I generally use either Belwin or Essential Elements. However, some students prefer to not use a method book at all and that is fine. Also, some have different method books they like, which is also fine. Read More

Though I will use basic materials to give students the knowledge necessary to begin, I believe it is important to allow students to play things themselves, to make mistakes because that is how we learn. My goal is to teach people music not to show them, meaning I provide the framework for a student's improvement so the student themselves can finish building the way they want to. Every student learns differently and I can effectively adapt to different paces at which students learn. supporting and acknowledging a student's progress is key. Read More

I do tailor my music lessons for the individual student. There really is no making a general statement for a specific person. There are, however, some very fundamental aspects of learning music for all people which will definitely include practicing and mastering scales of all type, performing with others, and using the ears to truly listen to intervals and the emotions that are invoked by performing certain keys in specific styles. I try to introduce my students to different styles and genres of music. Their repertoire ranges from dances and songs to variations, concertos and sonatas. In order to be able to play such an array of genres, one requires what I like to call a "laboratory of skills". Scales, exercises and studies, played at the beginning of every lesson, are a way to develop the said "laboratory".While working with little kids I try to combine traditional and Suzuki methods. In order to insure that my lessons are both educational and entertaining I make my little students move, dance, clap and sing. I firmly believe that students are best served when their teacher knows and cares about them. This attitude toward teaching helps me to tailor instruction to students' needs rather than following a prescriptive method. I usually begin lessons with a brief, informal conversation where we discuss the student's week and talk about things that are important to them. A strong and appropriate student-teacher relationship is the bedrock for successful goal-setting, accountability, and, of course, fun in private lessons! Read More

I have a passion for music, and I play a lot of gigs, and I can see that it inspires students. I work on student's strengths first, to give them a sense of accomplishment. I use audio recording during lessons to make an actual creation that students can share with friends and family. This also helps the student hear what they sound like, and to track their progress from week to week. Read More
