I started on violin in 4th grade and switched to viola in 6th grade.  I was involved in private lessons, youth orchestras, competitions, City, District, Regional and All State orchestras while I was growing up.  In 1991 I graduated from the State University of New York with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Music.  From there I attended Carnegie Mellon University and received my Music Education Certification in 1995.  I received my Masters in Music in 2000 from the University of Denver. My teaching experience started in my undergrad when I began giving individual lessons as well as coaching sectionals from time to time. When I became a TA at Penn State, I would routinely teach students of different levels and backgrounds, giving me a wide grasp of the different needs that individual students have. I like to have a consistent plan for all of my lessons, so that students know what to expect, as well as the best methods for practicing. I always start my students off with a warm-up consisting of scales or a technical exercise that relates to the piece that we are working on. I have been teaching for over 8 years and I have experience teaching in different settings, group classes, and one-on-one private lessons.
