Instrumental lessons usually follow the method book that is selected by their school band director. I have a great breadth and depth of experience with instrumental music education. Clarinet has been my primary performance instrument, but I have found over the years that the techniques that I use to teach clarinet are easily and successfully transferable to the other instruments that I teach. Besides the clarinet, I also teach saxophone, guitar, violin and piano throughout the Colorado Springs area. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! I tailor things to each students age, level and goals. I think anyone is able to learn an instrument and understand that we each learn and approach things differently. Some students are more oral or visual learners. I use the Suzuki method for violin and the Alfred curriculum for piano. The Suzuki Method really focuses on the ability to train the ear first before reading music. I believe it is important to teach music reading skills as well as playing by ear. My hope is to guide students early on and teach good technique from the start so that they will not have to change bad habits later on. Read More
