For beginning students, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, Suzuki, and easy scales. Once the student has progressed and appears to grasp the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce etudes and solo pieces. Currently, I teach at at an elementary school in Palm Beach County. (Florida Public Schools) I am teaching ages k-5 general music, chorus, and band. The instruments I teach weekly include trumpets, violins, flutes, keyboards, piano, guitar, and bass. When I student taught high school teachers at the Boston Latin School, (Boston Public Schools) I taught chorus, string ensembles, AP music theory and all ensemble instruments in every family. Unless requested otherwise, I primarily work with the Suzuki Method. For those unfamiliar, this is a methodology formulated on the belief that all children are capable of learning the violin at any age and skill level. This method works with play learning, ear training, and instilling a musicality from a young age. I augment these Suzuki books with other exercises, depending on the skill level of the student. Born in Washington D.C., I trained on violin in the Arlington area, starting with Suzuki and moving to more traditional classical studies, eventually composing and playing my own compositions starting in my early teens. I attended H.B. Woodlawn Secondary Program where I played in orchestras and numerous string ensembles, including [three?] years with the D.C. Youth Orchestra.
