I was a featured soloist at the First World Violoncello Congress in Washington, D.C in 1988 and in a featured faculty trio for the World College Chamber Music Conference in Berlin in 1995. Two of my cello solo recitals were recorded and released in 1981 by Hong Kong Audio Production LTD. As a student I had many teachers who made me achieve at their pace and with their understanding of what the violin required. Ultimately the classical route did not give me enough freedom to play the way I wanted to. In my work as a teacher I have found that the pursuit of an instrument, though hard work, should fundamentally be enjoyable for the student. Whether it is finding the music that resonates deeply with you, or constructing practice assignments that are clear and achievable within a week, I want to connect with each student I teach and help them to find a regular rhythm in their lessons that keeps them feeling productive. My teaching experience dates back to when I was in high school, when I began teaching beginning students of all instruments 10 years ago. I have been consistently teaching students in their homes, my home, and online for the past 5 years. I won the orchestral composition award for Rutgers Annual Orchestra Day in June of 2016 and was ranked in the top percentile of the Marvin Hamlisch film scoring competition on a global level, which was judged by Oscar- winning composer Mychael Danna. I have interned at Sandblast Productions, Creative Group and The National Chorale where I did several things ranging from scoring commercials to assisting with live camera concert directors and stagehand sound design. For stringed instruments, I uses the Suzuki method for teaching the basic repertory of the instruments. This method is an ear training method in which the student plays by ear. It starts out very simple so students of all ages can learn and progress very quickly. My first teaching experience was at age of 14. I was asked from the Korean Language School to teach the students as an extra curriculum. Since then, I taught private students for 12 years and studio students for 3 years.I also taught in youth orchestra for 10 years which can help the students to do better performing in their school orchestras as well.My main goal for teaching is to have students love playing music.
