I have been studying music since I was very young--piano, violin, F horn, trumpet, baritone, but my true love is the viola. I always start a lesson with a new student by assessing their current skill level. If the student already has a certain curriculum they are working on, I usually have them pick up from where they left off so I can see where we're at. Taking things into consideration like intonation, posture, dynamics, form etc., I either assign a new curriculum or continue on. I have had the opportunity to work with students of all skill levels from basic beginners to more intermediate students auditioning for youth orchestras. My favorite part of music has always been the connection with others, and I still often play with others, either in chamber ensembles, sight-reading, or as part of an orchestra.
