I recently relocated to Ypsilanti, Michigan from Austin, Texas to pursue a Master of Music degree in violin performance at Eastern Michigan University. I take the great things about the Suzuki Method and use them (fun, creativity, by-ear learning, group jams). Then I take the things I don't like about the method and disregard them (pre-established repetoire, no composition or improv). I teach kids how to concentrate, how to teach themselves, how to ignore distractions, and the philosophy for joyful performance without nervousness. What’s important is to strike a balance of activities that works for the student, engaging their desire to learn while giving them the structure necessary for success. I am a graduate of National Kiev Conservatory of Music with Master Degree in both Violin Performance and Music Education. After graduation from conservatory I worked full time in the State Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine for 10 years and then another 8 years in national Kiev Opera and Ballet Theater.
