I began teaching about 7 years ago as a part time way of making a little bit of extra money while in school and began teaching at middle and high schools in preparation for marching band and festival band competitions 5 years ago. I have toured with 3 different ensembles in a jazz medium, a classical medium, and as a brass quintet and have played in many side by side performances with young children up to high school, as well as performing with members of the New York Pops under direction of the world renowned conductor and composer Steven Reineke. Additionally, I like students to work on solos with piano accompaniment, although I don't require it. I am also a big fan of using duets to build listening skills and fluidity (and most students think duets are fun!). For piano lessons, I have experience with a variety of methods; each has its strengths and weaknesses. For beginning students, I generally start with the Accent on Achievment book series and spend the first few lessons assessing and addressing the important fundamentals of the students' particular instrument. After working out of the book for an apropriate amount of time, I introduce solo repertiore from both pop and classical genres. I started trumpet when I was in 5th grade and quickly realized music could be a fun hobby, however, needed some help in honing my skills.
