For beginning students, I always start by learning the notes on the staff that corresponds with their specific instrument. Knowledge and confidence of this is crucial to the learning process. Next, I pick a method book to work through to learn the fundamentals. For trombone, I use Rubank's "Elementary Method." I have been teaching private students since 2010, and am looking forward to establishing a studio in the NYC area. I believe in helping students establish regular practice habits, with consistent warmup exercises and strong fundamentals. I also find that combining assigned music with music the student choose for themselves helps keep motivation levels high!
