While in New York, I am also participating as a freelancing teacher musician. During the summer months, I have been seen performing at the St. Lukes United Methodist Church in Windermere, FL. Here, I have played in a variety of settings, including frequent performances in traditional worship, a Summer pops orchestra series, and three musicals. For beginning students who are children, I typically start by making the trumpet a game. Focusing on setting up a firm embouchure and obtaining a clear buzz on the mouthpiece sets up students for success! Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. My mother was a trumpet and piano teacher and I grew up with lessons going on in the house constantly. My father was an English teacher for 35 years! I have enjoyed thirty years of private lessons, teaching all ages a variety of styles of music! My sister is a violinist that plays in the Stanford Symphony! I have studied at Oberlin Conservatory and Rutgers State University and studied with some of the best teachers. I studied jazz trumpet for my bachelor's and Masters degrees. I moved to NYC in 2009 and have performed with artists such as Roy Hargrove, Kim Burrell, Geri Allen and Wallace Toney. I taught at the community outreach program at Rutgers State University and have been a teacher with Musika for 10 years.
