For beginner students in fourth grade or above, I like to work with the method book that their school district uses. Most districts use Essential Elements from Hal Leonard or Standards of Excellence. If the student is also a beginner at reading music, we will focus on music fundamentals and basic theory to build their notation reading skills. I like to integrate songs the students choose, whether it be from a movie or a pop song, to not only reinforce their techniques, but to get the student excited about practicing and performing music. I am passionate about trumpet and music and hope to inspire and motivate my students through engaging lessons. I always play my trumpet in lessons with my students. I encourage them to listen to/attend live and recorded concerts as frequently as possible to stimulate their enjoyment for the numerous possibilities that exist in music. I assist in creating performance opportunities for my students and even perform alongisde them if they desire. I'm a big believer in setting small but achievable goals. I also believe that achieving technical mastery of an instrument is a simple process of building habits. Some students may want to be pushed hard and challenged at every turn. Other students may not respond so well to such an approach so a different pace and style is required. It all depends on the student but in general I think a friendly smile and warm demeanor create a comfortable environment for the student to ask questions and perform their best each time I see them. My new students typically spend their first lesson and sometime their second getting used to playing the trumpet for the first time; the goal is to learn proper breathing, posture and tone. I have found the best method book for students is the "Learn to Play the Trumpet/Cornet" method book and always ask that students purchase the Arban's Method book, a must have for any trumpet player. Once the student is proficient in beginning methods, I like to move on to technical studies and the Sigmund Hering Etudes, as well as studies in the Arban's Method; if the student has progressed well enough Concertos and solo performance music will be added. My teaching experience began in college. I quickly realized that I most enjoyed helping people on an individual basis. In addition to performing in myriad musical idioms, I have made a career of private teaching, having conducted over 26,000 lessons since 2001. My performance experience weaves its way into many lessons, as I am able to share “real-life” experiences about the practicality of the material that we study. Many of my students have gone on to become performers, band directors, and scholarship winners. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing my students develop a passion for music as well as realize how rewarding music can be. Therefore, it is important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this and nurture this by assigning exercises to each student for their specific goals. After achieving each goal I feel like they will be more eager to learn and motivated to succeed. Read More

I have a passion for music and it is my goal to share that passion with as many students as possible. I like to tailor a lesson structure to fit each individual student to bring out the best in them. I monitor the students' progress every lesson and adjust the plan as necessary. It is part of my philosophy to put the student's needs first and do all that I can to encourage them to reach their highest potential. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
