I only had one student thus far in my teaching career but i can truly say that i taught him so much during our experience together. The best part about teaching a student, and i'm going to restate what i said earlier, is that both grow in the process. It only took me a year to teach that little kid how to play properly. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, especially for brass instruments. I also tend to mix in some fun songs that are more well known using my own arrangements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. If the student is more advanced I will assign method books such as the Arbans, Clarke, and Charlier books. I also like to incorporate music the student is interested in and wants to learn.
