Although the main goal of learning an instrument is to learn how to express yourself through music, it is important to understand how we can do that by having a solid understanding of theory and history. All students are different so I tend to approach slowly and access their reactions to my suggestions. It is so important not to make a student feel pressured to achieve, especially in Music... I want their interest and will to excel to be their own personal choice and quest. I think it is important for students to feel supported by their teacher as I will make myself as accessible as possible to answer any question or instill inspiring words to motivate their progress. For beginning students, I usually work with Hal Leonard's essential elements as well as use the piano as a tool for them to hear the pitches they are playing. Once the fundamentals are grasped we can work on introductory solo repertoire. For children I'd like to make this a bit more fun as well, introducing some easy tunes they will be familiar with or excited to play. (for example, Jason Derulo's song "Trumpets") For adults, I think its best to find out what their interests are and we can target what to work on from there. Read More

My teaching experience dates back a while where I had the pleasure of teaching Trumpet to young children between the ages of 9-12 years of age. Also gave lessons in a local Music store which was quite rewarding as well. At times, I would play some duets with the students which gave them a feeling of accomplishment and joy for their instrument.
