I am a professional trumpet player and educator. I am currently an adjunct professor at Richard Stockton University in New Jersey where I teach trumpet and coach a small jazz ensemble. I also teach many students privately out of my home studio. Mary has primarily studied classical trumpet, but also has training in jazz and world music. She currently plays principal trumpet in the Bravura Philharmonic and occasionally performs with the Philharmonic of Southern New Jersey, Orchestra Society of Philadelphia, and the Garden State Philharmonic. Shes also a member of the Philly Bloco and the Bella Vista Brass Quintet. Shes been involved in many performance groups including but not limited to the Vassar Wind Ensemble, Penn Orchestra, Marsyas Ensemble and numerous Purchase Conservatory ensembles including the symphony orchestra, graduate brass quintet, Latin jazz orchestra, klezmer ensemble, and the new music ensemble. To me, every student is different. What works for one won't necessarily work for another so each student will get a very individual experience. Also, my instruction will be further tailed depending on the students goals. Some of my students have wanted to become college music majors and others simply wanted to learn the instruments recreationally. Each student is unique in their own way, from how they learn to how they produce an end product. But one thing I stress in my teaching with all students is demonstration, imitation and repetition. The old adage that says, "practice makes perfect", is not always right. If the student is practice wrong, they will perform it wrong. I believe its my responsibility to demonstrate how it is done right so they can imitate it right and make sure that they are repeating it correctly. Read More

In my experience I have found that it is most effective to teach students in a one-on-one setting. When others are involved in the lesson it can cause a student to become self conscious and therefore effects their progress. It is important for the student to begin with a defined goal so that progress can be measured. When the student sees their progress they maintain enthusiasm in pursuit of the goal. Read More

Well my teaching style is very conveyed, profound and philosophical. For me it is important to find true focus and happyness in the world and share it with my students. For me i want every kid a teach to become famous musicians or at least feel good about music. I am not strict although i am very direction oriented. I want all students to try new musical techniques in the real world so i will try to promote them to the best of my abilities. Read More

After graduating college, I was the resident trumpet at the Barter Theater in Abingdon, Virginia, before completing three contracts as a show band musician on board Celebrity Cruise ships. I have toured Europe with my university's top jazz ensemble, as well as toured the United States with two different professional drum corps, Carolina Crown and Jersey Surf. I have taught at summer camps and after school programs, and I just love to share my love of music with others. Read More
