My methods are the ones that works more for the student. For some reason some methods work better with certain people. One method can be tedious for a student and easy and fun for another. Hal Leonard's can be a good tool. I can use to many different books. Also I can write down specific exercises special for the student. Some times a student can learn faster without a book. Read More

One of the pillars of learning that I hold to from my own experience as a private lesson student is the pursuit of excellence. I have been teaching individual lessons consistently for the last 8 years, and in that time I have learned that no two students are alike. I understand that each student requires my individual attention and focus and through that focus I make it a priority to learn how my student learns in order to provide the best, most fun experience they can have learning music and developing their skills. I find that metaphors using familiar things and processes, like the laws of nature and physics we see everyday, can help students grasp concepts that require marrying physical movements with mental flexibility. Teaching the most basic concepts in how to build a chord or a scale by using formulas is my favorite way to approach the lesson. An individual's understanding of music is always changing therefore I feel it is better to change with them. Using methods which are proven is important, but the idea of improvisation during a lesson always keeps the interest for me and the student. Of course this depends completely on the age and the experience of a student. Read More

Learning an instrument is a skill that requires practice and dedication, but making music is something that anyone can do. My goal with each of my students is to encourage creativity and truth in music as an expression, and to provide the technical practices that can maximize their ability to express themselves through their instrument. I find that students who are inspired by their personal appreciation for music practice more and achieve higher, and my goal is to foster an environment of learning and exploration to help them find themselves. Finding out what inspires the student helps me to construct my instruction to their needs. It is important to understand that each student has their own progression. I make sure to always set realistic goals for my students at each lesson and to acknowledge their accomplishments. This often encourages and excites the student to continue in their progression! I keep it light and I make sure that the student enjoys my lessons and look forward to the next one. Read More
