I have about 1 year of teaching experience, but as a recent college graduate I believe that I have a lot to offer musically. I encourage consistent practice, as well as a strong emphasis on technique. Read More

My teaching style is catered to the pace and interests of the student. Small achievements are the keys to great success, and acknowledging these achievements is essential to maintaining interest in learning music. I work together with students to find and set short term, midterm, and long term goals so that visible growth of their abilities can be observed, tracked, and appreciated. Through this process, anything can be achieved. Keeping a journal with dates, times, goals, practice logs, and general notes about your experiences can be extremely helpful along the path to mastery. There is a lot more to playing the trumpet than just blowing into the horn. Breathing, embouchure, and tuning are essential elements of playing the trumpet. I will focus on these things at the beginning of the lesson because it affects the sound every time we play. Then, I will use different books depending on the level of the students or we can go over pieces you have from being in an ensemble. Read More

Success comes from a variety of avenues, notably discipline (scheduling your time) and passion (enjoying the process of learning!). Learning and performing music is inherently difficult, but I am here to help guide you so that the process is fun and manageable! As Bruce Lee once said, "It takes a lifetime to know one's self", so let's work hard to discover what we are capable of and enjoy the journey! Read More

All students will be required to learn scales, etudes, solos, and other repertoire to bolster his/her musical goals abilities; but beyond that, I open to what the student wants learn, and what he/she is able to bring to the table. Throughout the years I have gained more and more students, but I have never stopped seeing myself as a student as well. I am constantly discovering new musical concepts and ways of teaching those concepts to my students. I still seek out the expertise of musicians I look up to and pass that expertise on to my students. I also find that my students themselves have a lot to teach me. Read More

I start lessons by warming up and doing exercises. For children, I do this in a listen and response setting. Then I will work through school songs or performance pieces, focusing on rhythms first, notes second and musicallity third. These 3 aspects lead to musicial mastery. I finish each lesson with an easy cool down. With in each lesson, I focus on musical styles that the students are interested in and work towards goals that the student set for themelves. Read More
