At the very beginning level I would start with fundamentals from whatever book I feel would be best for the student depending on their age and knowledge. I always enjoy seeing the light bulb moment my students get when they get something right, and learn something new. My teaching method is a simple stacking method we start with a lesson, I try to find where the student may struggle most and spend time with that. Then we move forward, but revisit the lesson prior for continuity. My initial goal is to create a connection with both the student and the family (family support it the best way to improve!). However, the fundamental exercises and order of warming up is very similar throughout the different levels of experience. It would start with long tones, then we would move on to lip slurs, then scale exercises and after that we would love on to music and etudes.
