I've been teaching since 2018. My teaching experience ranges from beginner to collegiate and I've taught as young as 8 and as old as 40. My initial goal is to create a connection with both the student and the family (family support it the best way to improve!). My teaching philosophy focuses on using personal experiences to relate to musical ideas (ex, breathe like you're jumping into a pool). I have B.M. in Acoustic Composition and Electronic Music, 10 years of playing/performing French horn, 5 rigorous years of piano instruction and performance, and a whole lifetime of singing. For single lessons, I perform an inventory of skills, supplementary lesson, and assessment for an improvement plan. I select technique and training material in conjunction with any programs in which the student is currently participating (i.e. school band programs, other instruction, etc.). These local children reminded me of myself when I was younger and strived to study music with a financially-difficult background. Helping these kids really was the highlight of my day as I could see how music has helped them grow. I will always feel grateful and excited to give back to my communities through what I do. My first experience teaching someone was when I was younger in my high school days, I was teaching my 7 year old nephew how to play ukulele which was an arduous task indeed. But through said trails and tribulations we managed to accomplish our goals together. Currently Im teaching guitar at the fine arts academy and I am teaching one student consistently while also substituting occasionally. One thing I have learned through teaching is that actually listening to music during practice is a big help and motivation which I like to include in sessions. Read More
